Tucked away in the Chikkamagaluru district is the popular hill station of Kemmangundi. We travelled to this place in September 2021 and were blown away by the sheer beauty of this part of western ghats. If you love the rub of green and the sight of rolling hills, this is definitely a place to try.
Things to do at Kemmangundi
The three main activities in Kemmangundi are:
- Z point trekking
- Visit to Hebbe falls
- Visit to Kalathigiri falls
I could do only the first two among these so will limit the blog to them. The third place is also quite good is what I am told, but could not visit due to lack of time.
Z point is a very short and popular trek that’s a must do if you are here. The trek is ideal for a beginner and can be completed in couple of hours. It is very easy and yet very rewarding in what it offers. In these two hours, you will pass through a green trail, splash around small waterfalls, enjoy fantastic view of the valley and at the Z point peak, enjoy being kissed by clouds. The trek starts from near the jungle lodges resort and is marked by a board. Once you enter the trail, there is little chance of getting lost as the trails ends at Z point.

On the way to the peak, you will see small streams of water (depending upon of course the month you are travelling). A small waterfall called Shanti falls is a good place to spend some time and click pictures.

Hebbe falls needs a bit more effort to reach to. About 200 odd meters from the Jungle lodge resort, there is a point from where you need to board a jeep to reach the falls. The jeep ride costs Rs. 500/- per person. After the jeep ride, there is a good 20 minute walk before you reach the base of the waterfall. But it’s all worth the effort as the waterfall is beautiful!

Where to stay in Kemmangundi
The best place to stay is probably the Jungle lodges, and only because it’s very near the main attractions. This is not the typical expensive stay as most of the Jungle Lodges are. Our per night stay cost something like Rs. 1900/-. It has decent rooms and an average restaurant. The view from the hotel is quite nice, especially on a rainy day. It has a small parking.
For the trek to Kalathigiri falls, here is a good post.
Do comment on your experience if you go there. Have a good one!
